Gebaseerd op de roman van Michael Crichton, volgt de film de excentrieke John Hammond, die paleontologen Alan Grant en Ellie Sattler, samen met wiskundige Ian Malcolm, inhuurt om zijn nieuwe dinosaurusdierentuin, die hij "Jurassic Park" noemt, te testen.
