He has long, tangled black hair and a bushy beard that almost completely hides his face. He possesses phenomenal strength. In the original version, Hagrid speaks with a rather peculiar accent, characterized by elision and distortion. Hagrid is very sensitive and sentimental by nature and cries easily. Hagrid usually wears a long coat made of beaver or bear skin, or a large overcoat made of mole hair, full of pockets. For "big occasions", he often wears a brown suit with a terrible yellow tie.
Hagrid has a preference for the most dangerous magical creatures possible, including a dragon he hatched at home and named Norbert, a three-headed dog that guarded the Philosopher's Stone named Fluffy, an Acromantula he named Aragog, the Hippogriff Buck, and some Blast-Ended Skrewts. He is able to see Thestrals. In fact, he has little interest in docile magical creatures, although he owns a somewhat cowardly hound named Fang as a pet.
Hagrid lives in a small wooden house built to his size, consisting of a single room and located on the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
